It’s the same story every year, what are we going to do on Valentine’s Day? I love my husband, and this year we wanted to do something from the normal pizza and Netflix. (I totally applaud those who will be doing this, we just want to try something new! 🙂 ) Whether you’re in southern Utah or live in New York City, share these ideas with anyone. Here are my top ten favorite things to do on Valentine’s Day.
Top 10 Things to Do on Valentine’s Day
1. Couples Massage or Spa Day
Most of us don’t get pampered on the daily. Um…hello! Use Valentine’s Day as an excuse and “treat yo’self!” Tip: If you’re not a member of Massage Envy, they’ll give you a couples massage for the intro price at $99. Andy and I do this every year for our anniversary. If you have a Taylor Andrew’s near you, they offer amazing deals throughout the week. My favorite is 50% off facials! (Seriously the best $15 you’ll ever spend.) Check any of their Facebook pages for offers.
2. Bed & Breakfast
Get away and do something different! Southern Utah is home to many B&B’s. Change things up from your typical hotel stay and travel to one of our gorgeous national parks: Bryce Canyon, Zion or Cedar Breaks. (Each linked with adorable B&B’s.)
3. Take a Cooking Class
Learn to make something special and out of the norm. Light some candles and make it a tradition year after year!
4. Scenic Picnic & Hike
I get that 80% of you are still in the chill of winter. Whether you’re in the desert like me or the snowy tundra like my northern Utah friends, a hike and picnic are still doable! It’s all in what shoes you wear. 😉 Pack some hot chocolate, soup and smore gear. It is possible to build a fire in the snow! Enjoy each other and nature.
5. Go to a Ball
Dress to the nine’s and go to a ball! Some of my favorite memories with Andy revolve around dancing, Downtown and dressing up. If a ball isn’t available in your city, throw your own party! Invite guests to dress up and dance. (We did this on New Year’s eve…and then went to a movie. It was so much fun!)
6. Get Artsy
The Tilted Kiln is the perfect way to let your artistic side out! Paint your own pottery while they do the firing for you. If you’ve ever wanted to try the wheel (insert childhood dream and hand raised emoticon), they have beginner classes. If you’re more of the paint your own mug, they have those options too. Color Me Mine is another great choice if you’re not local to St. George!
7. Ski Weekend Getaway
One perk of living in Utah is the snow. One MAJOR perk of living in St. George is enjoying the snow from a distance. 🙂 Either way, escape with your significant other to the mountains for a ski weekend. Snuggle up in a cabin or condo, shred down the mountain and enjoy each other’s company.
8. Dance Lessons
Ever wanted to learn the waltz? Valentine’s Day is the perfect timing! Grab your partner and learn step-by-step instructions to your favorite dance. Get extra spicy and learn to the salsa. I’m more of a salsa girl. 😉
9. Sporting Event
If the mushy gushy hearts situation isn’t your jam, go to a sporting event! Go to a Jazz game (sorry, Utah babe) or a college game. We just went to an SUU Gymnastics meet and had a blast!
10. First Encounter
Recreate your first date together! I loved this one. Andy and I went rock climbing on our first date. I was terrified. I had no idea if this perfect stranger was going to drop me to my death. Turns out, he was pretty good at it. 🙂 Then we went to “The Dodo” in Salt Lake City and talked for like three hours. He was a keeper. I was hooked!
