Layer with Purpose
Layering is like a balancing act. Think of the perfect cupcake – flawlessly frosted with just the right ratio of cake versus filling. Layering has to have a purpose and be balanced. If you choose a loose poncho or cardigan like my sweater, you have to balance it out with tight pants or leggings to keep it from looking like you woke up and put on everything in your closet. This is the first key step to look chic during winter.

Accessorize LightlyÂ
With so much volume in coats, sweaters, scarves, hats, etc., make sure to go easy on the accessories. A simple cross bar necklace or stud earring will do the trick to keeping you classy not trashy. Add a bag or sunnies if you’re out and about. This helps the whole look come together without adding bulk to your outfit.

Mix Patterns and TextilesÂ
One of my favorite textiles is faux fur. I love it in all shapes and forms – leopard, lamb, you name it, I want it. Mix up your winter wardrobe by wearing different patterns or textiles in your outfits. I love the look of a knit sweater with a fur jacket on top. This coat from Wilsons Leather is especially a fave because it has faux leather and fur. It gives an outfit pop.
Again, be super strategic in layering, go easy on the accessories and mix up patterns or textiles. This is the key to look chic during winter. It can be tricky, so practice and play in your closet. There is nothing better than discovering a new outfit combo!
Make it a December to remember.
