#1: Mini Christmas Tree
This is a Christmas tradition we have done for a couple of years. Since Andy knows how much I love Christmas, he buys me a small real tree from a nursery or grocery store for my work desk. I keep it watered all month long and then after Christmas is over, we plant it!
#2: PoinsettiasÂ
My mom always had poinsettias on our kitchen table throughout the holiday season. I love the traditional red, but they have some killer colors now! I even saw an orange one during Thanksgiving. Pop some color into your kitchen.
#3: Hot Chocolate & The Grinch
For whatever reason, my family is OBSESSED with Jim Carrey version of “The Grinch.” I’m pretty sure between all of us we could quote the entire thing. This movie is brought up year round, but during December we drink hot chocolate, sit by the fire and watch it as a fam. “Holiday-hoobie-whatie?”
#4: Neighborhood Christmas Lights
If you live in St. George, the city showcases an amazing light display on Main Street and throughout Downtown. One of our favorite Christmas traditions is to bundle up, take our dogs for a walk and stroll around Downtown taking in the Christmas spirit. There is something about being surrounded by lights that warms your freaking soul.
#5: Buy a New Ornament Each Year
We love this! It’s been fun over the years to remember each Christmas and the memories it brought.
#6: Gingerbread Houses
I’ve found oodles of recipes through Pinterest for frosting, but snag some graham crackers build yourself a mansion! Some of my favorite decorations are gum drops, mini candy canes and chocolate kisses.
#7: Family Photos
This may seem daunting, but I love seeing the change from year to year with our little fam. We started as Andy and I and have grown to Andy, me, Bella, Casey and now new baby Taylor. Can you believe next year at this time, I’ll almost have a year old?! If you’re looking for a stellar photographer in southern Utah, Charity Rebekah is my favorite.
#8: Cookies to Neighbors
Christmas traditions should not only be fun, but something that helps others. I enjoy this one probably the best. I love meeting and visiting with my neighbors. Plus who doesn’t love fresh chocolate chip cookies.
#9: Watch Old Family Videos
Again, it’s hilarious to see the changes over the years. I love seeing the quirks and funny things we used to do as kids. I can’t wait to start this tradition with my new little babe soon!
#10: Christmas Music & Dance Off
Blast Christmas music, turn on the tree and dance like crazy. Andy will deny it, but he loves dancing as much as I do. He just has to be in the right mood, but New Year’s Eve…watch out. 🙂
What are some of your favorite traditions? I can’t wait to start new ones with my little munchkin. Can you believe I have about two months to go? It freaks me out. Here’s to the spirit of Christmas!
